Congressman Cohen Calls for Revoking Invitation to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as a Witness before the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of Government

Recent antisemitic comments on coronavirus have gone too far

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today joined fellow members of Congress in asking Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan to revoke the invitation to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to testify at Thursday’s hearing before the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“The Judiciary Committee, once the highly effective guardian of the Constitution, civil rights, and civil liberties, has descended into being the political forum for Chairman Jordan to call officials and individuals before it who countenance the lawless behavior of Donald Trump and to call and attack people who have questioned, or taken action against, the former president.

“Chairman Jordan has now gone further, inviting gadflies as witnesses in a transparent attempt to give support to attacks on President Biden. Bobby is a different person than the man I have known. His claim that the Coronavirus was engineered to spare Ashkenazi Jews and Chinese people contributes to antisemitism and racism and contributes to the dangerous atmosphere in America today with violence against minorities. Having him as a witness before the Select Committee would only continue the Judiciary Committee’s fall from its historical purposes.”
