Congressman Cohen Charges Judiciary Committee Republicans with “Chutzpah”

Markup of Hunter Biden contempt citation follows Chairman Jordan’s failure to answer a Congressional subpoena
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, engaged in the debate over whether Hunter Biden should be cited for contempt of Congress for failure to agree to a deposition behind closed doors while offering to testify in public. Several Committee members noted that Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan defied a Congressional subpoena to testify before the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol without consequence.
In his remarks, Congressman Cohen said in part:
“What it really is is about ‘chutzpah’ which in English, of course, is ‘hypocrisy.’ But it’s both chutzpah and hypocrisy that Mr. Jordan would ask that a subpoena failure to comply would be cited for contempt when he did the same thing…This is not about Hunter Biden. This not about subpoenas. This is about Joe Biden and it’s about this committee and much of the Republican Congress trying to re-elect Donald Trump, who has 91 charges in indictments, two impeachments, God knows how many lies, and they want to help get him back in power.
“He says he’ll be a dictator just on Day One. And on Day One, of course, what he’ll do is he’ll declare a national emergency and a national situation where he’ll empower the military to come under his command to go after people, and arrest people and do things that have never been done in America before…
“But he’s not going to be elected because the American people are not capable or willing to be conned by the Number One con man this nation has ever known…It’s scary what’s happened…This is a continuation of re-writing history…”
