Says “Momentum is Growing” on Articles Introduced in November

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), the Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on the Constitution, commended U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum Monday for signing on to the Articles of Impeachment (H.Res.621) against President Donald Trump, and released the following statement:

"I want to thank Rep. McCollum for joining our growing coalition in support of impeachment. Recent news reports that the President ordered the firing of Special Counsel Mueller last summer underscore the fact that the House of Representatives should be investigating obstruction of justice.

"Our impeachment resolution would hold the President accountable for obstruction of justice, as well as violations of the foreign and domestic emoluments clauses of the Constitution (essentially enriching himself in office) as well as the President's attempts to undermine the independence of the federal judiciary and the press."

"This was never going to be a swift or easy process, and it shouldn't be. Removing a president should be done with steady deliberation, hearings and debate. But I'm confident the momentum is growing and that many more will join us."
