Congressman Cohen Condemns Antisemitism

Notes that source of the problem is typically from the right
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today questioned witnesses at a Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government hearing on “Antisemitism on College Campuses.” His remarks were initially interrupted by protesters in the hearing room who were removed. In his remarks, he noted the long history of right-wing antisemitism and many of his colleagues’ inconsistent responses to anti-Jewish bias.
“There’s been antisemitism in this country and in this world for a long, long time – in the world, for 2,000 years, give or take, and in the United States, probably since the beginning of the country. Most of it has come from right-wing, racist crowds like the Ku Klux Klan and Proud Boys…They were the groups that were in Charlottesville and said ‘Jews will Not Replace Us,’ and marched with their torches.”
Congressman Cohen noted that President Trump responded by declaring there were “very fine people on both sides” at Charlottesville.
Congressman Cohen’s full exchange with the witnesses can be found here.
Witnesses at the hearing today were:
- Rabbi Mark Goldfeder, CEO of National Jewish Advocacy Center;
- Shabbos Kestenbaum, Graduate Student, Harvard University;
- Eyal Yakoby, Undergraduate Student, University of Pennsylvania; and
- Kevin Rachlin, Washington Director, The Nexus Leadership Project
