Congressman Cohen Condemns Supreme Court Ruling Against Law Requiring Anti-Abortion Centers to Inform Clients About Alternatives

Says move is a retreat from fight to protect the reproductive rights of women

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), the Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, released the following statement in response to today's 5-4 ruling in National Institute of Family and Life Advocates v. Becerra:

"Today's ruling allows anti-abortion activists to deceive women with inaccurate information. The law struck down was a reasonable means of making women aware of all of their alternatives when seeking advice about a pregnancy. Activists have no business interfering with women's Constitutionally protected right to make their own reproductive choices, but the court has now opened that door."\
