Congressman Cohen Condemns Trump Pardon of Flynn

November 25, 2020

His H.J. Res. 8 would limit abuses of the pardon power

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, today condemned President Trump's pardon of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn with the following statement:

"This was to be expected but it's clearly wrong. Flynn pleaded guilty twice to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia. This shows the kind of damage this President can do in his final days in office and demonstrates the need to pass my H.J. Res. 8, which would prohibit any President from granting a pardon or reprieve to himself or herself, to certain members of a President's family, to members of the President's administration, or to paid employees of the President's presidential campaign."
