Congressman Cohen Condemns Trump’s Politicization of the Farmers to Families Food Box Program

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today condemned the Trump administration's politicization of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farmers to Families Food Box Program. Delivery of surplus agricultural products through the food box program designed to help needy families has included messages claiming credit from President Trump.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
"President Trump's cynicism knows no bounds. As billions of dollars in nutrition aid has yet to reach millions of children, and food banks become overwhelmed in the midst of a pandemic, the Trump administration has spent its time politicizing federal programs and massaging its image by delivering boxed-food with letters from President Trump claiming credit for aid provided by American taxpayers. I stand with anti-hunger advocates throughout the country who have condemned the President and his administration for their crass self-promotion.
"I look forward to turning a new page in American history and putting the American people ahead of showmanship. I'm proud of my record, which includes introducing legislation to provide tax incentives to establish stores to reduce food deserts, ensuring desperately needed aid such as P-EBT cards reach intended recipients during a global pandemic, advocating for expanded after-school meal programs and increased federal funding for local food banks. Along with President-elect Biden's administration and the new Congress, I'm looking forward to ending Washington's toxic culture and to delivering crucial aid to all American families in need."
