Congressman Cohen Discusses Rail Priorities at Hearing on Passenger and Freight Rail Network

Raises Amtrak service from Memphis to Nashville, cargo theft and dining car service

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today discussed his priorities for railroad service at a hearing titled “America Builds: Examining America’s Freight and Passenger Rail Network.”

In his remarks and questions to witnesses, Congressman Cohen talked about the ongoing Corridor ID feasibility study of a passenger rail corridor between Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga and Atlanta authorized by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). He also raised the issue of cargo theft, a problem plaguing Memphis, and discussed bills he has introduced to improve dining car service on long-distance Amtrak routes.
