Congressman Cohen Endorses Pelosi as Next Speaker of the House
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) enthusiastically and proudly endorsed Nancy Pelosi of California to be the next Speaker of the House of Representatives, as he has prior to every new Congress since the 2007 leadership elections that made her the first woman Speaker. Congressman Cohen wrote his colleagues on November 16 offering his full support for what he called “a skilled and experienced tactician, a steel hand in a silk glove.” See the letter here.
Congressman Cohen also made the following statement:
“Going into 2019 with Trump in the White House and a partisan Senate leader, the people need a strong, experienced House Speaker and negotiator on their side. When you’re in the seventh game of the NBA Finals, you want Lebron in the paint. When you’re in the final game of the World Series, you want Sandy Koufax on the mound. And when you have a country in crisis, you want Nancy at the negotiating table.
“Nancy has already proven to be one of the greatest Speakers in our history and has shown she can work with but also stand up to a President and get the people’s work accomplished. With a unified leadership team, we can confront the ongoing culture of corruption and the harm done to our nation’s standing in the world. I urge my colleagues and the American people to support Nancy Pelosi as the next Speaker of the House.”
