Congressman Cohen Expresses Concern Over Whereabouts of Vladimir Kara-Murza

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly’s Special Representative for Political Prisoners, today expressed deep concern about the whereabouts of Russian dissident and journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza. Kara-Murza had been serving a 25-year prison sentence for treason in solitary confinement in the Omsk region of Siberia but is no longer there, according to a lawyer who sought to visit him on Monday.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“Vladimir’s disappearance is a serious cause for concern. Any transfer from his situation in solitary confinement was not for his benefit. He has serious health problems that are not being addressed, and he has already survived two suspicious poisonings. I call on the Russian Federation to release him immediately but at the very least to tell us where he is.”
