Congressman Cohen Introduces University of Memphis President Rudd
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today introduced University of Memphis President M. David Rudd to the House Education and Labor Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Investment. Congressman Cohen noted that Rudd, also a Professor of Psychology, is in his fifth year as president and that his wife, Loretta, teaches child development at the university. See his introduction here.
Dr. Rudd testified about efforts the university is employing to keep students in school to complete their degrees, including its “Finish Line” program that helps students when their financial resources have been depleted. See that testimony here.
As a state senator, Cohen worked to initiate and pass the Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship program to fund college scholarships based on both need and merit, after-school programs, and pre-K education for Tennessee’s students. Since the inception of the Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship program in 2004, more than $5 billion has gone to Tennessee students continuing their education at the college level.
