Congressman Cohen Nearly Doubles Help for Tennessee Families through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program

January 7, 2022

Funds are Helping Lower Costs of Heating, Utilities and Energy Repairs for Families and Senior Citizens

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today highlighted a new report from the White House outlining how he delivered nearly double the regular annual investment to help Tennessee families afford energy costs. In total, Congressman Cohen helped secure $130.4 million for Tennessee through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in the American Rescue Plan and annual appropriations, nearly twice more than last year's $66.1 million. As Americans continue to deal with the impact of the pandemic and high energy costs, Tennessee families and senior citizens can use these investments to lower the costs of staying warm this winter, cover utilities and pay for energy repairs.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"As hardworking residents of Tennessee's 9th Congressional District continue recovering from the pandemic, this additional investment through appropriations and American Rescue Plan I helped pass is helping families afford energy costs and stay warm, safe and healthy this winter. It was a smart investment in our community."
