Congressman Cohen Once Again Asks for Judiciary Hearings on Russia Interference in Elections

May 17, 2018

“The Republic is on fire,” he says

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), the ranking member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, said today that the committee has misplaced its priorities with a bill, advanced during Washington's annual "Police Week," that would ease restrictions for police to carry guns into Social Security offices on personal errands, when the Senate has now confirmed Russian interference in the 2016 elections. The Congressman has repeatedly noted that the Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over many of the subjects raised in the ongoing Russian probe, and again called for hearings. See his remarks here.

"This is like show business…The Republic is on fire. Some of the things we've been seeing and learning from media reports should cause this committee (enough) concern to have a hearing on some of these issues…The Intelligence Committee of the House failed and didn't live up to their duties to be a check and balance as the Senate Intelligence Committee did."
