Congressman Cohen Opposes Plan for Military Parade on Trump Birthday

Reiterates need to pass his HAPPY BIRTHDAY Budget Act
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) took note of more detailed plans to hold a military parade coinciding with Donald Trump’s 79th birthday on June 14 and reiterated the need to pass his Halting All Parades for Presidents’ Yearly Birthdays; It Risks Taxpayer Harm, Damages, And Your (HAPPY BIRTHDAY) Budget Act. Congressman Cohen introduced the measure on April 9 when the first reports of a planned parade surfaced and were denied by the White House.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“The egotist-in-chief wants taxpayers to foot the bill for a military parade on his birthday. This would be an unprecedented waste of money to please this self-absorbed con man, and the public should make clear it’s unacceptable. One way to do that is to urge your members of Congress to support my Halting All Parades for Presidents’ Yearly Birthdays; It Risks Taxpayer Harm, Damages, And Your (HAPPY BIRTHDAY) Budget Act to prevent this waste of money and encourage a more economical birthday celebration, with cake, a round of golf or a bingo night. It also sends the message that Trump is not a king, and we don’t pay tribute to tyrants.”
The HAPPY BIRTHDAY Budget Act extends a “Happy Birthday” from Congress free of charge and encourages Americans to make use of the U.S. Postal Service, the only service expressly authorized in the Constitution for the transmission of personal correspondence, if citizens want to send their own birthday wishes.
