“Beneath the skin, we are all the same,” he says in commending Shaw
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) praised the quick-wittedness of James Shaw Jr., a bystander who intervened in Sunday morning's deadly Waffle House shooting in Nashville. Congressman Cohen also commended Nashville Mayor David Briley for calling for comprehensive gun reform after the use of an assault-style rifle in the pre-dawn attack.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
"I want to extend my condolences to the families of those who were killed and injured in this senseless act and to commend law enforcement officials for their rapid response in this incident. I also want to commend Nashville Mayor David Briley for calling for comprehensive gun reform. I particularly want to thank a heroic James Shaw Jr., whose swift action in disarming the assailant saved lives. Seeing pictures of his wound, I'm reminded that, beneath the skin, we are all the same. Shaw's brave intervention confronting evil deserves our highest praise."
