Congressman Cohen to Preside at Hearing on Threats to Reproductive Rights

Memphis obstetrician-gynecologist among the witnesses

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), the Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, will preside Tuesday at a hearing on “Threats to Reproductive Rights in America.”

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“One by one, states are rolling back the Constitutional rights of women to be free to choose how to handle their reproductive health needs. It is my hope and expectation that Tuesday’s hearing will demonstrate why Congress must be vigilant in upholding rights women gained in the Roe v. Wade case and subsequent Supreme Court rulings.”

Witnesses at Tuesday’s hearing will be:

  • Dr. Owen Phillips, Memphis, Tennessee based OB/GYN;
  • Busy Philipps, actor and activist;
  • Jennifer Dalven, Director, ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project;
  • Dr. Yashica Robinson, Alabama-based OB/GYN;
  • Professor Melissa Murray, New York University School of Law;
  • HK Gray, activist, Youth Testify;
  • Christina Bennett, Member, National Black Pro-Life Coalition and Communications Director for the Family Institute of Connecticut; and
  • Melissa Ohden, anti-abortion activist

The hearing will take place at 2141 Rayburn House Office Building beginning at 10 a.m.
