Congressman Cohen Questions Legal Counsel in Impeachment Hearing

December 9, 2019

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, today questioned the counsel for the House Judiciary Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on the evidence collected during the investigation into President Trump's abuse of power.

Congressman Cohen also made the following statement:

"The facts are undisputed and the President and his enablers have no defense. Today's testimony revealed how President Trump abused his office by leveraging American power to pressure a foreign country to intervene in our elections for the President's personal political benefit. He put his own interests ahead of the country's, and there must be consequences.

"That's the issue we need to get to in this committee: to understand the difference between doing something for the national good, for the international good, for the common good and for your own good. That's the difference."

Other witnesses at today's hearing were staff attorneys Steve Castor and Barry Berke.
