Congressman Cohen Receives Tennessee Alzheimer’s Leader Award

February 3, 2020

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today received the Tennessee Alzheimer's Leader Award for his leadership in supporting Tennessee families facing the disease. The award was presented by members of the Tennessee chapter of the Alzheimer's Association in his Memphis district office.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"Alzheimer's and related dementias rob members of our families of their most precious memories. That's why I am dedicated to ensuring federal research dollars are invested in research, treatments, and therapies that lessen the burden on both patients and their families while continuing to strive for a cure to this devastating disease."

Congressman Cohen co-sponsored the Improving HOPE for Alzheimer's Act (H.R. 1873) to increase access to information on care and support for newly diagnosed patients and their families. Congressman Cohen also co-sponsored the Younger-Onset Alzheimer's Act (H.R. 1903) which would allow individuals living with dementia under the age of 60 access to support services from programs under the Older Americans Act.

Congressman Cohen was the first member of the Tennessee congressional delegation to sign on to the BOLD Infrastructure for Alzheimer's Act, which will strengthen the U.S. response to Alzheimer's as a public health crisis.

Congressman Cohen is also a member of the Bipartisan Congressional Task Force on Alzheimer's Disease.
