Congressman Cohen Remembers Congressman John Dingell
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) recalled his congressional colleague John Dingell of Michigan, the longest serving member of Congress, who passed away Thursday at 92.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“John Dingell came to Congress in 1955 after winning a seat to succeed his father and became its longest serving member. I will remember my time sitting with him on the House floor, admiring his thoughtfulness, honesty and knowledge. History will remember him for his efforts to extend health care from Medicare and Medicaid in the 1960s to the Affordable Care Act in 2010. He will also be remembered for his aggressive efforts to root out corporate and government waste, fraud and other abuses. He was a statesman and a titan of this body. I extend my sympathies to his wife and my colleague, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, his family and friends.”
