Congressman Cohen Remembers O.C. Pleasant Jr.

December 11, 2018

Shelby County Election Commissioner served with distinction

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) noted the passing of his longtime friend, Shelby County Election Commissioner O.C. Pleasant Jr., and made the following statement:

"O.C. and I became friends when we were elected as delegates to the 1977 Tennessee State Constitutional Convention. We got to know each other well during the five months the convention lasted and we maintained that friendship over the next 40 years. He was a stand-up member of the county election commission who served with great distinction and heroism, and was noted for speaking truth to power. He dearly loved his wife Barbara and his children and was a good family man and a good citizen. His was a life well lived. He will be missed."
