Congressman Cohen Remembers President George H.W. Bush

Calls the late President a statesman and “a class act”
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) noted the passing of President George H. W. Bush today with the following statement:
"President Bush was a statesman and a gentleman who served his country in a several important roles with dedication. As a fighter pilot in World War II, congressman, CIA director, vice president and president, he led a life of public service.
"On a rainy day in late November 1989, President Bush spoke from the front lawn of The Commercial Appeal on Union, extolling the newspaper and its editor, Lionel Linder, for their work focusing on individuals in the Memphis region making a difference as volunteers.
"His ‘One Thousand Points of Light' initiative still thrives and will be part of his lasting legacy. He was a class act.
"I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to his children and their families and his many friends. His was a life well led."
