Congressman Cohen Requests Assessment of Today’s Storm Damage
WASHINGTON – Following this morning’s storms, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) sought detailed information on damage and injuries from Shelby County emergency managers in advance of potentially seeking federal emergency disaster assistance. Reports indicate several areas of north and south Shelby County sustained structural damage while at least 26,000 homes were without electricity. The storm struck just after 6:30 a.m. local time.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“I am asking for an assessment of the damage so that federal disaster relief is swiftly made available, if permitted, to those who need it. This was a serious storm and I’m grateful that, at this point, no serious injuries or fatalities have been reported. My staff and I will continue to monitor the situation.”
