Congressman Cohen Says Tennessee General Assembly Expulsions and House Judiciary Committee New York Field Hearing Were Shameful

In floor speech, says “Do your job, protect your citizens”
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee and a former Tennessee state senator, spoke from the House floor this morning to castigate the Tennessee General Assembly for expelling two members for raising gun law issues. He also denounced the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee field hearing Monday that focused on harming the reputation of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a state official who is prosecuting Donald Trump.
In his remarks, Congressman Cohen noted that a majority of Tennesseans support red flag laws and prohibiting the sale of assault rifles. He also noted that the Judiciary Committee is not empowered to act as the former president’s public relations firm or defense team.
“Shame on the Judiciary Committee of this House. Shame on the General Assembly of Tennessee. Do your job. Protect your citizens,” he said.
Congressman Cohen also noted that Donald Trump called for the execution of five minority youths accused, but later exonerated, in the notorious “Central Park Five” case which ultimately cost New York $41 million.
“Did Donald Trump apologize? No. Shameful.”
