Congressman Cohen Says Trump Doesn’t Understand His Constitutional Duties

In floor speech, denounced his “unfathomable” his comprehension of his oath
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) went to the House floor this afternoon to express his astonishment at Donald Trump’s demonstration of ignorance about his responsibilities and duties as President.
In his remarks, Congressman Cohen said in part:
“I watched the president in his interview on ‘Meet the Press’ yesterday. I was shocked at the lack of understanding the man has of his job. He takes an oath to protect, preserve and defend the Constitution of the United States. He says he’s not sure if the Fifth Amendment is applicable to people in this country. He’s not sure if he’ll stand up to protect the Constitution. This is unfathomable.
“Then he come up and tells us he wants to have a parade that will cost over $90 million on his birthday which happens to coincide with Flag Day and the birth of the United States Army, neither of which have ever had a parade in the past. $90 million with airplanes and tanks and troops to appease a man’s ego to let him think for a while that he’s Genghis Khan or Napoleon. He’s not Genghis Khan or Napoleon and he’s not the pope. He’s the president of the United States who works for us, the American people.”
