MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a former member of the Tennessee State Senate, mourned the loss of his friend and colleague Jerry W. Cooper, and made the following statement:

“Jerry Cooper was an outstanding State Senator, an unsung hero of another era willing to accomplish bipartisan policy objectives, including his help in getting my state education lottery passed into law. He worked with then-Governor Sundquist to strengthen support for our State Troopers, earning him the recognition of being ‘Cooper’s Troopers.’ He was the most effective Senator, bar none. Jerry was a good friend who got a lot accomplished by being cooperative. His was a life well-lived, and I will miss him.”
