Congressman Cohen Statement on President Biden’s Decision to Bow Out of Presidential Race
MEMPHIS, TN — Today, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) released the following statement after President Joe Biden announced his decision to bow out of the Presidential race.
“I supported Joe Biden in his Presidential bid in 2020 and I’ve supported him ever since,” said Congressman Cohen. “He did what he said he would do, and he defeated an incumbent President who flouts our laws. Joe Biden has served our nation with purpose, skill, and grace. His presidency has been the most impactful since that of President Lyndon Johnson and the Great Society.”
“President Biden has used his great legislative skills to deliver phenomenal policy to benefit the American people: the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, the Inflation Reduction Act, the PACT Act for veterans, the first major gun safety bill in decades, and the American Rescue Plan, to name just a few,” Congressman Cohen continued. “He ushered our country out of a terrible pandemic and made the United States a leader again on the world stage with his strong support of NATO, funding for Ukraine, and negotiating peace in the Middle East with a cease fire agreement that looks very promising. President Biden has always chosen those of impeccable character to serve our nation, and he made diversity a priority with the first minority and female Vice President, the first Black female Supreme Court Justice, the first Black Secretary of Defense, and the first Black female United Nations Ambassador from the U.S., as well as making a huge impact via judicial appointments.
“Tennessee’s Ninth District has felt the great impact of President Biden’s work. Memphis will have a new bridge as was just announced last week, there have been major investments in MATA, the Memphis International Airport has undergone a generational transformation with even more upgrades on the way, and we’ve been able to secure funding for important community projects in TN-9 — like housing, support for the homeless, healthcare, criminal justice, post-incarceration counseling, and education.”
“President Biden has been one of our finest presidents, and we have been lucky to have him move us forward and protect our democracy.”
