Congressman Cohen Sworn In to 117th Congress

Enters Eighth Term Representing Memphis, Shelby County
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) was sworn in today to the 117th Congress, beginning his eighth term representing Memphis, Millington and parts of Shelby County.
Congressman Cohen today also voted to again make Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi of California the Speaker of the House for this two-year Congress.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
"I'm honored to be serving the Ninth Congressional District for another term as your representative in Congress. I am already at work on bills to strengthen our democratic institutions, reforming the presidential pardon power, and raising the minimum wage as well as addressing the coronavirus pandemic and its economic fallout.
"I am proud to support my friend Nancy Pelosi for another term as Speaker of the House. Her leadership has proven wise and effective in the past and I look forward to working closely with her and the House Democratic Leadership team to improve the lives of our constituents."
In his remarks from the House floor before casting his vote today, Congressman Cohen called Speaker Pelosi "the hardest worker in the U.S. government" working to end the coronavirus pandemic. He also called her "our greatest Speaker."
