March 6, 2024

Vote on the first of his 9th Congressional District community projects for Shelby and Tipton counties

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today voted for an Appropriations measure that includes $15.5 million for 13 major community project funding priorities for Tennessee’s 9th Congressional District.

The House voted on the first of several funding packages today, including measures supporting Agriculture, Rural Development, the Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies; Commerce, Justice, Science (CJS), and Related Agencies; Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies; Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies; Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies; and Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development (THUD), and Related Agencies.  Other federal agencies’ spending bills are expected to be voted on by the end of this month.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“I recommended community project funding important to the people of the 9th Congressional District and am pleased that the projects have now passed the House. Some of this funding expands upon projects I secured funding for in previous years, including money for the Memphis International Airport, the Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) and Overton Park -- that are already making a difference. All of the projects funded today meet the needs of our community and will improve the lives of residents of Shelby and Tipton counties.”

The vote on passage was 339 to 85.

The measure that passed today now moves on to the Senate for its consideration and, if passed there, to President Biden to be signed into law.
