Congressman Cohen Votes Again to Avert a Federal Government Shutdown

Democratic votes critical to avoid catastrophe – again
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) again today voted to avoid a federal government shutdown as Republican disunity and dysfunction required Democratic votes to prevent a catastrophe. This is the third time – after votes on September 30 and November 14 – when the House has had to take up temporary spending bills to keep the doors open.
The vote on passage was 314 to 108.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“Once again, House Republicans have shown that they can’t control their own caucus or pass legislation as a majority. Democratic votes, including mine, again prevented a catastrophe for the third time in months -- this time until March. It’s time to pass appropriations bills covering the entire fiscal year and stop kicking this can down the road. There will continue to be problems getting the Republicans in the House to agree to anything. They are refusing the Senate’s border deal, making ‘the perfect the enemy of the good,’ which is perfect to their MAGA eyes. It’s time for Republicans to quit playing political games and start governing responsibly for the American people.”
