Congressman Cohen Votes to Authorize Subpoenas for Special Counsel Mueller’s Report

April 3, 2019

Says there is a need to see full report to conduct proper oversight

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, today voted to authorize the use of subpoena power to compel the Department of Justice to release Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report to Congress. The vote in the Judiciary Committee was 24 to 17.

The Judiciary Committee resolution also authorizes Chairman Jerrold Nadler to subpoena from former White House Counsel Donald McGahn; McGahn's former deputy Ann Donaldson; former White House Senior Advisor Steve Bannon; former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus; and former White House Communications Director Hope Hicks.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"Special Counsel Robert Mueller spent 22 months investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election and Congress and the American people deserve to see all that he discovered. We simply can't trust the President's hand-picked Attorney General to release a redacted report that makes a case for not finding that obstruction of justice occurred when Mueller explicitly wrote that he did not reach that conclusion. We need to see the entire report and its accompanying exhibits and other material to conduct proper oversight."
