Congressman Cohen Votes to Censure Representative Tlaib

Appropriate action is based on conscience
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) listened to the full debate in the House Chamber and consulted with colleagues and constituents before voting Tuesday night to censure Representative Rashida Tlaib for her comments on Israel. He made the following statement today:
“I listened to everyone speak on the censure resolution Tuesday night, consulted with my Congressional colleagues and constituents and gave serious consideration to what censure means. It was the appropriate vote based on my conscience. If, after 9/11, someone had said it was the fault of those killed in the towers, or the United States, I would have expected censure. Representative Tlaib’s remarks were untrue, unfeeling and protective of the terrorists, not the victims. Those kinds of remarks deserve condemnation.”
