Congressman Cohen Will Vote Tonight to Address Infant Formula Shortage

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) plans to vote on the Infant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Act tonight to address the acute shortage of infant formula caused by a supply disruption in Michigan. This supplemental appropriations bill provides $28 million in emergency funding for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), providing FDA the resources it needs to address the current urgent infant formula shortage and to help prevent it from ever happening again. The bill also provides funding for FDA to take such steps as may be necessary to prevent fraudulent products from entering the United States market.

The vote is expected late this evening.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"I know my constituents with babies are feeling the effects of the shortage and need immediate relief. I am pleased this bill provides the FDA the resources it needs to ensure that the existing baby formula supply is safe and back on supermarket shelves while also preventing this sort of shortage from ever happening again.
