Congressman Cohen’s Statement on Leadership Transitions at Boeing

Commends FAA and the NTSB for promoting safety culture
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), the Ranking Member of the Aviation Subcommittee, today applauded Boeing’s decision to overhaul its senior management, including the departure of its chief executive Dave Calhoun at the end of 2024 and its head of Boeing Commercial Airplanes Stan Deal immediately, in the wake of recent serious safety failures. Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“Boeing’s decision to overhaul its management is the right thing to do. Safety is the number one concern for both the flying public and federal regulators, and Boeing’s inattention to safety and the prioritization of profitability has harmed its credibility and the faith the public must have in aviation. I commend FAA Administrator Michael Whitaker for the agency’s response to the January 5 Alaska Airlines door plug accident and to his and the National Transportation Safety Board’s commitment to holding those responsible for air travel safety accountable. Boeing’s decision is I hope a new chapter in its renewed commitment to safety and quality.”
