Congressmen Cohen Receives the 2015 Champion for Children Award

April 27, 2016

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN) today received the 2015 Champion for Children Award from the First Focus Campaign for Children for his work on children’s issues such as child trafficking prevention and foster care. A picture of Congressman Cohen receiving the award can be found here.

“I am honored to be receiving the Champion for Children Award from the First Focus Campaign for Children,” said Congressman Cohen. “There are far too many children in America suffering from malnutrition, poverty, child trafficking and other ailments. My father was a pediatrician so a passion for protecting our children has always been part of my DNA. I vow to never give up on our children and will always work to help them as long as I am in Congress.”

This is the second time the Congressman has received a First Focus Campaign for Children Award. In 2011 he received its Defender of Children Award.

The First Focus Campaign for Children is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization affiliated with First Focus, a bipartisan children’s advocacy organization. The Campaign for Children advocates directly for legislative change in Congress to ensure children and families are a priority in federal policy and budget decisions.

The Campaign for Children presses for policy changes to improve the well-being and protect the rights of the next generation of America’s leaders. The group’s advocacy is focused on the areas of child health, education, early childhood, family economics, child welfare, immigration, and child safety, in addition to tax and budget policies that lift children out of poverty. In its advocacy, it seeks to increase the federal investment in programs that support and protect our nation’s children.
