$500,000 Federal Grant for Memphis That Will Create Jobs and Boost Economic Development
September 4, 2009
EmergeMemphis is a focal point for entrepreneurial activity in the Mid-South, and provides technical assistance and space to new entrepreneurial ventures. The project is expected to create additional jobs and private investment in the region, and was made possible through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
“Memphis is a great place for companies from around the nation and the world to do business. This grant is going to help create new jobs and open up new investment opportunities in our area by renovating and expanding the EmergeMemphis facility. This is a real win-win,” Congressman Cohen said. “I was proud to vote for the Recovery Act that has brought hundreds of millions in federal funding to the Ninth District to improve our schools, rebuild our roads and bridges, and help save and to create jobs.”
The Recovery Act was signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009. It is providing immediate relief for American families and jump-starting billions of dollars in new projects that are creating jobs, improving infrastructure and strengthening local economies.
EDA is an agency within the U.S. Commerce Department and supports the economic development needs of distressed communities throughout the United States.
