May 30, 2007

Washington, DC -- Israel Hernandez, U.S. Assistant Secretary and Director General of the Trade Promotion and Commercial Service of the U.S. Department of Commerce, will speak at a small business workshop on Monday, June 4 hosted by the district office of Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) in cooperation with the Tennessee Small Business Development Center and Southwest Tennessee Community College. The workshop, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Southwest Tennessee Community College’s Macon Cove campus, 5983 Macon Cove.

The workshop, designed for small business owners and those interesting in starting a small business, will provide an opportunity to hear from and interact with government officials and private sector providers about the necessity of developing strategic business plans and effective ways to market and finance small businesses. Assistant Secretary Hernandez will discuss global marketing and competition.

“Small businesses are the solid foundations upon which communities are built and an integral part of American life,” said Congressman Cohen. “Owning a business is the dream of so many Americans and the right information can ease the process for those who want to pursue that dream.”
