Cohen Announces $1 Million for Memphis Scientific Research Firm
[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced $1,000,000 in federal funds for Translational Sciences, Inc., a Memphis-based small business. This grant comes through the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Small Business Innovation Research awards.
“Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in the United States, including in the Ninth District.” said Congressman Cohen. “This funding will help Memphis researchers find innovative new treatments.”
Translational Sciences, Inc,, was awarded this grant to study “Novel Methods for Dissolving Blood Clots.” According to the researchers, Translational Sciences will attempt to treat dangerous blood clots while still in the body, by dissolving them through molecular engineering. The project’s goals include reducing death, disability, and cost of service.
