Cohen Announces $1.1 Million in Federal Funds for Memphis International Airport Improvements

September 12, 2014

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Memphis International Airport will receive $1,125,000 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). This funding will support electrical system rehabilitation that will help extend the useful lives of runway lights and taxiways.

“The Memphis airport is a critically important transportation link in the Mid-South region,” said Congressman Cohen. “This funding will help ensure our airport can continue serving travelers safely, securely and efficiently for many years to come.”

Memphis International Airport is a world-class facility. Dedicated in 1929 as the Memphis Municipal Airport with just two major carriers, the airport now hosts several national carriers as well as the FedEx “Super Hub.” Memphis International has grown into the busiest cargo airport in the country, and is the second-busiest in the world—behind only Hong Kong.
