Cohen Announces $1.8 Million for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
July 14, 2010
“St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has been a leading innovator in the study and treatment of leukemia in children for decades,” said Congressman Cohen. “These new federal funds will enable the Hospital to continue to search for new methods to treat this devastating disease.”
NIGMS awarded the Hospital $1,827,001 to research the Pharmacogenomics of Anticancer Agents. This research is working to discover the variability of responses to medications that are used to treat childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
NIGMS is part of the National Institutes of Health, which is one of 11 agencies that compose the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Established in 1962, NIGMS is the Federal Government's principal agency to support research that lays the foundation for advances in disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
