Cohen Announces $200,000 in New Federal Funds for University of Memphis Archaeology Project
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today announced the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has awarded $200,000 to the University of Memphis’ Karnak Hypostyle Hall Project.
“The Karnak Hypostyle Hall Project seeks to document one of the greatest architectural wonders of its era,” said Congressman Cohen. “With this grant, the University of Memphis will continue to be a national leader in the study of the architecture and culture of Ancient Egypt.”
The University of Memphis, in cooperation with the Franco-Egyptian Center at Karnak, has been documenting the extensive structure in Luxor, Egypt since 1990. When completed, the University of Memphis’ Karnak Hypostyle Hall Project will provide background information and commentary on the artwork and detailed drawings of the structure.
NEH is an independent grant-making agency of the United States government dedicated to supporting research, education, preservation, and public programs in the humanities.
