Cohen Announces $214K for Christ Community Health Services

April 5, 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded Christ Community Health Services of Memphis, Tennessee $214,955 for continuing operations. The federal funds will be distributed through the Health Resources and Services Administration Division of Grants Management Operations.

“Christ Community Health Services provides a vital service to the Memphis community,” said Congressman Cohen. “These new federal funds will help Christ Community Health Services continue to provide the poor, the homeless, and the uninsured with the health care they need.”

The federal funds were made available via a Health Center Cluster competing continuation grant. The overall purpose of the grant is to provide financial assistance to health centers to support primary health care services to an underserved area or population. The grant supports the continued operation of a health center for the provision of required comprehensive primary, preventive, enabling and additional health care services including oral health care, mental health care and substance abuse services as appropriate, either directly on-site or through established arrangements without regard to ability to pay.

Christ Community Health Services has focused on fulfilling the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of the poor, the uninsured and the homeless in Memphis since 1995. Through strategically placed health care centers and outreach programs, the group provides high-quality health care and other services to thousands of patients, caregivers, students and families each year.
