Cohen Announces $225,000 for University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis
MEMPHIS, TN -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis has been awarded $225,000 in funding from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). The funding will be used by the Health Science Center for clinical research related to neurological disorders.
“This grant is an important investment in the good work being done right here in our community at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center,” said Congressman Cohen. “The research of our local doctors and students will go a long way towards improving our understanding of neurological disorders.”
Today’s funding is through the NINDS’ Exploratory/Developmental Grant program, which supports new, ground-breaking research projects that assess the feasibility of new avenues of investigation, involve experiments that could lead to a breakthrough, or demonstrate the workability of new technologies with the potential to have a major impact in specific fields.
Founded in 1911, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis has roughly 2,700 students enrolled today studying in fields from dentistry to nursing and pharmacy.
