Cohen Announces $2.4 Million for Memphis Housing Authority

July 20, 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-09) today announced the Memphis Housing Authority has received $2,484,384 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for replacement and relocation assistance for Cleaborn Homes – a public housing development.

“These new federal funds will allow hundreds of Memphians to have a place to live while their homes are being renovated,” said Congressman Cohen. “Once the renovations are complete, Cleaborn Homes will be able to provide state-of-the-art housing and early childhood development services to families that need it most.”

The new funds will be issued as Housing Choice Vouchers and used to help relocate families during the renovations of Cleaborn Homes. In June 2010, HUD granted Clearborn Homes more than $22 million to rebuild and revitalize over 400 units under the HOPE VI program.
