Cohen Announces $333K for Research at UT Health Science Center
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded the University of Tennessee Health Science Center a grant worth $333,000 to fund research on arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases. The new federal funding will be distributed by the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases.
“The research done at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center helps to save lives every day,” said Congressman Cohen. “Millions of Americans suffer from arthritis and related symptoms. This new funding will allow the UT Health Science Center to continue to provide patients in Memphis and beyond the best research and care possible in the treatment of arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases.”
The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) is one component of the federal government’s National Institutes of Health (NIH), which is an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The mission of NIAMS is to “support research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases; the training of basic and clinical scientists to carry out this research; and the dissemination of information on research progress in these diseases.”
