WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded the University of Tennessee Health Science Center a grant worth $438,932 to expand research projects for heart and vascular diseases. This new federal funding will be distributed by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).

These new federal funds will help develop heart and vascular disease research initiatives that could improve the quality of life for Memphians, Tennesseans and Americans all across the country.”
As part of the Department of Health and Human Services, NHLBI’s mission is to provide “global leadership for a research, training, and education program to promote the prevention and treatment of heart, lung, and blood diseases and enhance the health of all individuals so that they can live longer and more fulfilling lives.”
