Cohen Announces $584K for University of Memphis
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded the University of Memphis $584,315 for biological research related to deafness and communicative disorders. The federal funds will be distributed through the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. The University of Memphis received a similar award of $292,294 on February 14 from HHS.
“The University of Memphis is such a great institution with outstanding research programs and departments,” said Congressman Cohen. “These new federal funds will help the University further their research to better serve the hearing impaired and others who live with communicative disorders.”
The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders is one of the Institutes that comprise the National Institutes of Health (NIH). NIH is the federal government’s focal point for the support of biomedical research. NIH’s mission is to provide research that would prevent, detect, diagnose, and treat disease and disability.
