Cohen Announces $667K for Research at University of Tennessee Health Science Center
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded the University of Tennessee Health Science Center $667,578 for research for mothers and children for a controlled trial of Gabapentin to treat symptoms of Vulvodynia. The federal funds will be distributed through the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).
“The University of Tennessee Health Science Center has some of the best medical research programs in the country,” said Congressman Cohen. “These new federal funds will be used to help aid the unfortunate symptoms of Vulvodynia in women.”
NICHD was initially established to investigate the broad aspects of human development as a means of understanding developmental disabilities, including intellectual and developmental disabilities, and the events that occur during pregnancy. Today, the Institute conducts and supports research on all stages of human development, from preconception to adulthood, to better understand the health of children, adults, families, and communities.
