Cohen Announces $9.9 Million for Memphis Housing Authority

October 5, 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded the Memphis Housing Authority $9,914,000 under the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG).

“Increasing access to quality, affordable housing during these tough economic times is crucial for Memphis,” said Congressman Cohen. “This new federal funding will help the Memphis Housing Authority reach more people and improve the quality of life for many Memphians.”

CDBG is a flexible program that provides communities with the necessary resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. The program works to ensure quality affordable housing, provide services to the most vulnerable in our communities, and to create jobs through the expansion and retention of businesses. Established in 1974, the program is one of the longest running at HUD. To learn more about CDBG please click here.
