Cohen Announces More Than $1.5 Million for University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) in Memphis has been awarded a total of $1,535,129 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for four different projects.

“These funds will help continue the important work being done by the skilled researchers at the UT Health Science Center in Memphis,” said Congressman Cohen.

The following grant awards are included under today’s announcement:

  • HHS’ National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases awarded $652,004 in grant funding to UTHSC for the “Pathobiology and Reversibility of Prediabetes in a Biracial Cohort” project.
  • HHS’ National Institute of General Medical Sciences awarded $270,000 in grant funding to UTHSC for the “Mechanisms of transcription coregulator usage by the target of rapamycin pathway” project.
  • HHS’ National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke awarded $328,125 in grant funding to UTHSC for the “Genetics and Biology of CIZ1 in Cervical Dystonia” project.
  • HHS’ National Institute on Drug Abuse awarded $285,000 in grant funding to UTHSC for the “Cocaine addiction: neuropharmacological mechanisms of compulsive cocaine use” project.
