Cohen Announces More Than $2.5 Million for Job Training Programs at Southwest Tennessee Community College
[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that Southwest Tennessee Community College was awarded a $2.66 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) for the development and expansion of innovative training programs. Southwest Tennessee Community College is also a member of two different multi-college partnerships that were additionally awarded just over $5.76 million in funding for training programs under today’s announcement.
“These funds will help Southwest Tennessee Community College prepare Memphians for jobs in the high-paying, advanced fields that will drive our economy into the future,” said Congressman Cohen.
The funding announced today is part of the DOL’s Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training Grant Program, which awards funding to promote skills development and employment opportunities in fields such as advanced manufacturing, transportation, health care, as well as the so called “STEM” fields: science, technology, engineering, and math. The DOL coordinates this grant program with the U.S. Department of Education.
